Boogie Remembers the Moment Rihanna Cosigned Him
He also shares some relationship advice and the strength of solitude.
For the latest entry in our Conversations With interview series, HYPEBEAST linked up with Boogie to discuss finding strength in solitude, Rihanna’s co-sign and the proper way to direct message your potential crush.
Over the course of a few years, Boogie has grown from local talent with a big song to a potential star and it’s all been a testament to his ability to tackle difficult discussions with his music. He broke out in 2015 with his track “Oh My” and established himself as a credible artist with his three mixtapes, which included his two installations of his Thirst 48 and The Reach. After signing to Shady Records in late 2017, fans and onlookers alike were anxiously awaiting his major label debut, Everythings for Sale, and the West Coast spitta didn’t disappoint.
Someone who has been a fan of Boogie for some years, however, is Rihanna, who praised his song and video of the 2016 single “N*gga Needs.” Boogie still remembers finding out about the bigtime co-sign. “I seen it said Rihanna started following me, and I was like ‘This is a fake page,’” he said. “I clicked on the page and it was her.”
If you haven’t yet, Everythings for Sale is one of the best projects of 2019 so far. The 13-song LP includes features from 6lack, J.I.D., Snoh Aalega, Christian Scott, and Shady Records head Eminem.
