Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Leaves Facebook Over Data Scandal
“With Facebook, you are the product.”
Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, has announced that he’s leaving Facebook‘s platform after its recent data breach scandal. Speaking with USA Today, he said that he’s increasingly concerned with how companies like Facebook are treating private information. Giving a statement over email, he said “Users provide every detail of their life to Facebook and … Facebook makes a lot of advertising money off this. The profits are all based on the user’s info, but the users get none of the profits back.”
He went on to say that he’d prefer Facebook to use a subscription-based service rather than have his personal information used for advertising. He also compared it to the company he co-founded, saying “Apple makes its money off of good products, not off of you. As they say, with Facebook, you are the product.”
Facebook recently added an unsend messages tool, after Zuckerberg was caught unsending messages.
