Disclosure was invited for a new interview with Rolling Stone, and the English electronic duo revealed their thoughts on a variety of subjects: their upcoming plans, stage design and admiration for legendary rock bands. They had positive words for fellow UK artists Sam Smith and Lorde, both of whom they have recorded with. They share the importance of good songwriting, which they feel is a trait more apparent in pop than in club music. In addition, the duo also had a few words for fake producers and “industry posers.” Read a few highlights from the interview below, and the full article here.

On recording with Sam Smith
“We had three whole days to hang out with Sam and write, which are two of my favorite things to do. He’s definitely not lonely now.”

On recording with Lorde
“She turned up on her own, no management or bodyguard. That’s the most equal collaboration on the record. You can really hear her sound — she has this sassy yet vulnerable thing.”

On club vs. pop music
There’s not any really club music on this one. It’s all very club-influenced, because of the beats, but every song is like ‘Latch’ or ‘White Noise’ — a fully structured pop song. The songwriting is the most important thing for us. I feel a lot of dance acts lack the cohesiveness that we can get.”

On fake producers
“You meet more and more producers and you find out, ‘You’re not really a producer, are you? You’re just a monster A&R who puts his name on the record.’ It’s weird.”
