After Pharrell and Robin Thicke were accused of plagiarism earlier this year, it became apparent that new musical technology means that songwriting is coming under more scrutiny than ever. Next up in the firing lines are Guns N’ Roses. The legendary rockers have been accused of ripping aspects of their classic anthem from an Australian band. As one of Rock n’ Rolls most iconic songs ever, this allegation is truly bizarre; however Australian music website Max TV has insisted that GNR’s anthem bears striking similarities to Australian Crawl’s “Unpublished Critics.” Crawl’s track reached No. 1 on the charts; but the band dissolved in 1986, a year before GNR released “Sweet Child Of Mine.” Compare the two songs for yourself below; but the argument remains that neither Australian Crawl or GNR seem to have noticed, or worried about the similarities (if there are any.)
