Specializing in ceramics, having previously designed ceramic speakers, as well as a coffee pot for Blue Bottle Coffee, product designer Joey Roth has lent his hand to creating these self-watering ceramic planters for the small-scale horticulturalist. Inspired by the “olla,” a traditional ceramic irrigation tool, Roth instead reimagined the centuries-old design into this patented design, which uses porous walls within the center pot to slowly release water into the soil to sustain up to three herbs or six succulents. Available in glazed and unglazed versions, the Self-Watering Planter is can be bought online for $50 USD here.
