Max Heath and Natalie Plaza, collectively known as indie duo Child Actor, unveil the video to their new single “Never Die.” Helmed by Tyler Yee, the visual sets the tone right for the group’s forthcoming same-titled new album Never Die, which hits stores September 2. Driven by Plaza’s choreography, the mystic, slightly bizarre clip sustains the album’s theme of creative liberty. Watch it above and read through our brief conversation with the band below.
What can you tell us about the concept for your latest video?
I would say it is a performance video that embodies some of the mystery and power of the song. I like the part where Natalie’s hooded head starts multiplying/flying in your face but I guess that’s not really a concept.
Your album Never Die is due in September. How does it stand it in relation with your 2012 effort, Victory?
Victory is very chaotic and fragmented. Never Die comes more from a desire to create an environment for something emotionally/musically pure to exist.
Never Die is a powerful concept. What made you decide on this title?
The album is about being so in love that death is terrifying and unimaginable.
Will you tour this album?
I hope and believe so. It’s always a question of logistics.
How did you come up with your name, Child Actor?
I was watching There Will Be Blood and I was fascinated by the performance of the young man who played the part of H.W. There’s also something euphonious and peculiar that I like about using the word “child” as an adjective.
Finish the following sentence: The music industry is…
…pretty harmless as far as industries go.
Your words of wisdom?
Be very kind to old people.
