Donald Glover, or Childish Gambino as he’s known to most of us, will enact a childhood dream as he portrays Spider-Man in an upcoming episode of Disney’s Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. The 30-year-old jack-of-all-trades entertainer will voice the role of “Miles Morales,” a half-black, half-Hispanic Spider-Man who inhabits a parallel universe featured in the series’ new season. Speaking exclusively to USA Today about the dream role, Glover gave the following statements:
“He can be anybody…Spider-Man could be a girl. Spider-Man could be an old man. You don’t know. So I just tried to be as me as possible, because you’re always just going to bring it back to yourself when you watch the show.”
“Spider-Man is the best because you just don’t know who he is, and he’s funny and he’s poor. I understand Spider-Man a lot on that level. He’s just trying to make it.”
The new season of Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors will premiere this at Sundays 9 a.m. You can watch a clip from the forthcoming episode below. For more information, read USA Today’s exclusive piece on the series and Glover’s role.
