Following recent news that Instagram‘s user base has now surpassed that of Twitter‘s, Instagram returns with a double whammy upon the announcement that the photo sharing network is now higher in value than the microblogging service, with the former standing at $35 billion USD compared to the latter’s $23 billion USD. Instagram’s rise in the past two years has been meteoric, with its user base only a paltry 30 million at the time of its acquisition by Facebook. Since then, Instagram has increased its user base tenfold, with 50% growth in the past nine months — in comparison, Twitter only saw a 4.8% increase in active users in the last quarter. Hot on the heels of the “Instagram Rapture” which saw the elimination of spam accounts, Instagram’s upward trajectory seems unlikely to slow any time in the near future.
