Pierre Bergé on the New YSL Biopic

Yves Saint Laurent’s biopic will soon release this spring, despite a fair share of conflict surrounding the tribute to the iconic designer. Two different films are being produced with different directors and lead actors with the other one lagging behind to be released later this year.
The story goes that Pierre Bergé, Yves Saint Laurent’s longtime business and romantic partner, granted support for Yves Saint Laurent (directed by Jalil Lespert and starring Pierre Niney) but refused it for Saint Laurent (directed by Bertrand Bonello and starring Gaspard Ulliel), forcing production to be delayed.
For Yves Saint Laurent, Bergé allowed Lespert and his team into the archives of the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, granting access to over 35,000 drawings, 5,000 dresses and 15,000 accessories, and gave them permission to film at the brand’s headquarters, but with severe restrictions; each item worn was accompanied by a handler and the models were not allowed to sit down.
Despite the blessing, however, Bergé has promised swift legal action should the film step out of line and include any reproductions of outfits or sketches from the brand
