If you didn’t already know, the 14th annual Red Bull Music Academy in New York City wrapped up this past Friday with special guest lecturer Q-Tip dropping in to drop some knowledge. Kicking things off with the playback of “Gettin’ Up” from his Renaissance album, the emcee subsequently dives right in to breaking down the track and reflecting on his music in hindsight. The A Tribe Called Quest veteran then speaks on his career and goes more in-depth with his dissection of songs from his discography in the two-hour video. Music fans and aspiring artists alike can learn much from the footage, so press play up above to check it out.
UPDATE: For those who weren’t able to sit through the entire two-hour-long interview, down below is a snippet Q-Tip shared (1:37:00) of “Mama’s Boyfriend,” which he previously produced for Kanye West. Hopefully one of these version will appear on Yeezus, but only time will tell.
