Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine Talk USC Endowment
After just yesterday revealing their $70 million endowment to USC in order to formulate the Jimmy

After just yesterday revealing their $70 million endowment to USC in order to formulate the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation, we now receive a short word from the partners in reference to the big-time act. The program will award kids the opportunity to enroll in the system, which will be garnered around Arts and Entrepreneurship, Technology, Design and Marketability, Concept and Business Platforms, and Creating a Prototype. LA Weekly just sat down with the guys, as they had this to say as to how the idea was generated:
Jimmy Iovine: Everything we do together comes out of my and Dre’s many conversations we have multiple times a week, probably every day, like, “Jimmy don’t you hate the way kids are listening to music on the radio?” [In this case] we decided we wanted to give back and do something because we’ve been very fortunate over the last 20 years and Dre has always wanted to give back. So I said to Dre, “Ok why don’t we do it together?” And we go to Beats and see that all these kids are so…so good at understanding technology and have a feel for the art, or the other way around. Then we look at Beats and say “Geez we need kids like that here!”
Dr. Dre also mentioned that with his Beats by Dre company continuing to do well and with the current USC program in the works, he can now return to focusing on Detox — whatever that is. Okay, okay — maybe that was a low blow.
