After releasing the singles “Cake Boy” and “Fame Is For A*****es” alongside their accompanying videos the past two Mondays, Hoodie Allen has returned with the project that they’re on. The name of it is Crew Cuts and within an hour of its release today, the free album racked in over 20,000 downloads. The New York emcee is no stranger to big numbers, though. If you think back to April 2012, you might remember that his All American EP sold over 27,000 copies in its first week, putting it at No. 1 on iTunes and in the top 10 on the prestigious Billboard 200 chart. While that project was carried largely by Hoodie with only one feature, on Crew Cuts he decided to take a different approach and make the process more of a collaborative effort. “I wanted to challenge myself to try new things and work with new people,” says Hoodie. “I have grown up a lot in this past year and I wanted the music to reflect those experiences. It is easy to ‘play it safe’ as an artist, but I think in order for your fans to grow with you, you can’t be afraid to evolve and be better.” He certainly has the fans, and given the flux of excitement among them for these 11 songs, it’s safe to say that they get the vision.
