adidas Basketball Year of the Snake Collection

With the Chinese New Year quickly approaching, adidas is releasing a special edition basketball collection for the Chinese Year of the Snake. For those interested in the background behind the color choices for the lineup, 2013 is the Year of the Water Snake according to the Chinese Five Element Astrology Calendar, and the color corresponding to water under that system is black. As such, we see both the color and animal themes artfully incorporated into the design of special editions of the D Rose 3.5 and the T-MAC 1 silhouettes, as well as two tees, a long-sleeve tee, and pair of shorts.

The Rose 3.5 gives the animal qualities a more luxurious imperial treatment by incorporating gold and shimmering black scales onto a sky blue upper with contrasting laces and black Sprint Mesh, while the T-MAC 1 opts for a more grounded appearance with the use of a veined black toecap and a metallic blue upper. Due out in Taiwan on January 15, the items are priced at $4,990 NTD (approximately $170 USD) for the Rose 3.5, $3,690 NTD (approximately $130 USD) for the T-MAC 1, $1,190 NTD (approximately $40 USD) for the tees, $2,490 NTD (approximately $85 USD) for the long-sleeve tee, and $1,690 NTD (approximately $60 USD) for the shorts.
