In response to the literal mountains of wasted textiles that end up in landfills every year – many of them of high quality – LA-based snowboarding brand 686 Technical Apparel recently hosted a contest for participants to design a jacket that used reclaimed materials, fabrics, trims and supplies. The prize? An internship at the company for two winners that would involve them in the process of designing innovative and technical outerwear.
However, the project doesn’t just seek to promote environmental sustainability through its contest. In partnership with Match One, the project took on an added social role, pledging to donate one jacket to a person in need for every Reclaimed jacket purchased. Although the contest deadline has already passed, you can still visit the project website and prepare for the next one.
