The work of San Francisco native Aaron Young has been called “minimalism on steroids,” which makes a lot more sense once you look at his unconventional approach to creating art by stripping down various American iconographies. In this interview, we learn about how Young takes a brash “do whatever the fuck you want, just be able to defend it” approach to his projects — with particular regard to three of his most recent projects. Young is also showing a number of works as part of James Franco’s REBEL exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
