Despite their similar upbringings as whimsically filtered photo-capturing applications, Hipstamatic and Instagram have each evolved a great deal in their own right. Hipstamatic serves as a high-quality stylized tool that won Apple’s “iPhone App of the Year” in 2010, and Instagram as a photo-sharing social network, which won the same award one year later. However, that’s set to change, as Instagram will soon be allowing Hipstamatic photographers to directly publish their snapshots to the wildly popular Instagram network. This partnership marks the first time Instagram has opened their platform up to third party use, but one that is expected to be mutually beneficial to both companies. Hipstamatic gains access to the fastest growing social network (now beyond 27 million users), and Instagram gains more users, furthering its unparalleled growth.
