After raising a few eyebrows with her victory over Drake and Justin Beiber for “Best New Artist” at last year’s Grammys, Esperanza Spalding is set to release her highly-anticipated album Radio Music Society. The bassist/singer has definitely gained a lot of attention since the Grammy win, and with having sang at last month’s Oscars, her journey to capture mainstream listeners’ ears is set to continue. Her latest album is described as a pop/jazz fusion, and one of the standout tracks is her cover of the Michael Jackson classic “I Can’t Help It.” Spalding’s unique sound gives the Jackson track a completely new feel, accompanied by ’80s synths and her playing of the electric bass.
