Sean "Diddy" Combs announces Revolt Cable Network
Likely to be inspired by the examples set by Oprah Winfrey and Ryan Seacrest, Sean “Diddy”
Likely to be inspired by the examples set by Oprah Winfrey and Ryan Seacrest, Sean “Diddy” Combs intends to secure a spot on the cable channel lineup. The mogul will present his plans for a music-oriented cable channel called Revolt which could launch as soon as the end of this year. Revolt is set to serve a music and news television channel influenced by the nonstop chatter of social networking websites, thus trying to challenge Viacom-owned networks MTV and BET. It is rumored that Combs have teamed up with none other than Comcast, the nation’s largest cable television provider, to carry Revolt on some of its local cable systems. In Comcast’s last year campaign of acquiring a majority stake in NBCUniversal, Comcast pledged to carry several new channels owned by minorities, one of them being Diddy Combs. Time Warner Cable, the nation’s second-largest cable provider, has also been in talks about carrying Revolt. According to spokeswoman Maureen Huff, the talks were ongoing.
In an interview with MTV last month, Diddy implied that he and his team are “coming with a new energy, we’re coming with something that people are going to want to tune in to see,” while praising MTV and BET for “paving the way” and making him a global star. Stay tuned.
