Riccardo Tisci‘s pre-Fall 2013 collection for Givenchy was as much an exploration and extension of his own iconography – the recognizable shapes, fabrics and prints he has made into coveted items for the house — as it was an exercise in the “essentials” of a man’s wardrobe. His obsession with exclusive checks, elaborate prints, contrasting fabrics and engineered cuts continued, this time by way of motorcycle looks and meatpacker’s imagery, while the doberman in digital-painted versions appears poised to become this season’s rottweiler. Couture resumed its tussle with urban elements for pre-Fall 2013 — sharp, black moleskin suits and tuxedos in cotton velvet or satin vied for prominence with lumberjack checks and patchwork, while other areas of note included the repeated appearance of a House de Givenchy stamp and an array of modified derbies, trainers and plimsolls.
