While Earl Sweatshirt returned to the United States back in March after a year-long, mysterious stay in Samoa, and has since appeared as a guest on several tracks, he had not released any work that was the result of his solo creative efforts. However, the Los Angeles native now presents “Chum,” a three-minute track that could very well give a sense of what to expect from Sweatshirt in the future. Minimalist and somewhat low fidelity in nature, the track sees the artist explore a variety of topics, including the tenuous relationship with his father as well as his experiences with his Odd Future friends and how they have shaped him as a person. While details or even an official release date for his upcoming solo album have yet to be released, rumors seem to point that we can expect it sometime early next year.
