Mumford & Sons' 'Babel' Breaks Spotify Streaming Record
The album Babel from Mumford & Sons continues to rack up numerous accolades since its release.
The album Babel from Mumford & Sons continues to rack up numerous accolades since its release. Following on from their record week on iTunes by shifting 600,000 units (the highest in 2012 and the second highest ever), the British band sailed past Spotify’s record for streams from an album in a single week with their sophomore offering. Spotify users in the U.S. alone enjoyed the album “around eight million times” in its first seven days of release. Ken Parks, Spotify’s chief content officer informed Billboard.biz that the album broke the site’s previous record three times over and that one out of every 10 Spotify users in the U.S. had listened to at least one track from Babel. The records attained by Mumford & Sons pick the whole in the argument that subscription streaming services are affecting albums sales. Showing clearly in this instance that the two entities can work in tandem.
Babel is available now on iTunes.
