Singer-songwriter Eric Clapton has been making headlines recently with the sale of his Abstraktes Bild painting by Gerhard Richter fetching £21.3 million GBP. Now the artist may be looking forward to another windfall as his personal Patek Philippe Platinum 2499 watch is set to hit the auction block with many experts speculating that the timepiece could fetch as much as $4 million USD. One of only two 2499’s in platinum and the only one in private hands, this represents quite possibly the pinnacle of Patek Philippe timepieces. Sold at auction in 1989 for approximately $253,300 USD (approximately $513,688 USD when adjusted for inflation), it would wind up in Clapton’s collection 10 years later for an undisclosed sum. Available as part of Christie’s Important Watches auction on November 12 in Geneva, the pre-sale estimate for the watch is between $2.7 and $4.2 million USD. Stay tuned for further news when this amazing timepiece hits the block.
