2011 INDEX: Award Nominee - Veurich Brothers Eyewear

With the theme “Design to Improve Life,” INDEX: Award is the world’s largest annual monetary award competition for design. Split into five categories (Body, Home, Work, Play and Community), the competition seeks to find designs which target or solve the problems and challenges of human life, awarding a prize package of €100,000 to one nominee from each category. Among the nominees for this year’s Body category is a small company called Vuerich Brothers which makes eyewear from recycled skateboards. After giving thought to what they wore and where it came from, the brothers discovered that they could avoid wasting valuable land resources by converting their old skateboards into sunglasses. Currently in production, the eyewear should be on the market soon so stay tuned.
