As one of this year’s most anticipated releases, The Strokes’ upcoming comeback album Angles is likely to live up to its expectations as the recent release of its first single “Under Cover of Darkness” indicated. The band has now unveiled the cover art for the piece. The artwork was created by the late Belgian artist Guy Pouppez, who died in 1993. According to their spokesperson, The Strokes stumbled upon his art through their graphic designer.
“His work is basically unknown, as far as we [the band] know,” the spokesperson explained. “He was not a famous painter. The graphic designer who designed our album art found it through an art dealer she knows in France. We tracked down his only heir, his daughter, and she gave us the rights to use it so long as we wrote in the liner notes: ‘Cover painting by Guy Pouppez courtesy of his daughter’.”
Angles is out on March 22nd via RCA.
