The Story Behind the Adidas VICE Adicolor Sneaker
Thanks to VICE Magazine, we have the story behind the Adidas VICE “Old Blue Last” sneaker which is part of the Adicolor series. The VICE shoe and jacket for adicolor are inspired by England and the pub that we own in Shoreditch, The Old Blue Last. The logo for the OBL, was designed by Jeneleen Floyd – it’s the visual basis for the design. VICE co-founder (and Do’s and Don’ts author) Gavin McInnes was creative director on the project – and in the video at www.viceland.com/adicolor he’s explaining the rationale for the design. We linked to the other adicolor movies there too.

VICE is part of the ‘pink’ palate – so the shoe and jacket have pink highlights in VICE Pink – the magenta color we use for all headlines in the magazine around the world. Our Canadian crew gave them the shoes the nickname “Cupcakes.” Sweet. The production model is a little different from the sample that adidas sent to press – we replaced the pink contrast stitching around the eyestays and it really cleans the shoe up a lot. The jacket’s got the full Victorian Old Blue Last logo on the back, and the VICE logo repeated on the inside lining – plus gold foil stamps of the OBL Crows and the adidas trefoil.
We made the shoe and jacket out of white cotton denim with pink pinstripe lining – which are both ties-in to the spring line of our tailored shirt line, Seize Sur VICE, available at Groupe 16sur20 in NYC. They come with a pair of pink laces as well (for girls, mainly), plus a VICE Razor Blade charm and a cylindrical lace jewels (we wanted to do a lace jewel that isn’t completely ornamental and lame). The jacket is sharp as shit. Kicks too.
So – check out the photos. 1500 pairs in N. America, 1500 pairs in Europe, 1500 in Asia. And another 500 pairs in…Antartica or something. 2500 jackets.
The Vice sneakers are now currently available at shops worldwide.
