President Obama Has Declared June 2016 “African-American Music Appreciation Month”
Obama thinks Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ was the best album of 2015.
In an official presidential proclamation, President Obama has declared June 2016 as “African-American Music Appreciation Month.” After meeting with Kendrick Lamar (where he confirmed To Pimp A Butterfly as his favorite album of 2015), Pusha T, Chance the Rapper and Nicki Minaj over the last year, the president has described African-American music as “a vital part of our Nation’s proud heritage” and “the most innovative and powerful art the world has ever known.” The proclamation also encourages “public officials, educators, and people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate activities and programs that raise awareness and foster appreciation of music that is composed, arranged, or performed by African Americans.”
