When snippets of Rihanna’s latest single “B*tch Better Have My Money” surfaced online, it was apparent that we’d returned to the “Rude Boy” days of sass and purpose RiRi. A welcome return, the track made true traction online, receiving love from all corners, and becoming complimented by an image of Rihanna in “dollar-green-Versace” at her performance on the iHeartRadio awards. With four songwriters credited to the smash, whispers of plagiarism have recently began to run riot – apparently we’re heading slightly too close to Just Brittany’s 2014 track “Betta Have My Money.” The youngest of the afore mentioned songwriters, Bibi Bourelly, has spoken out about the claims in a candid interview with Vibe:
“It’s like you dedicate [your] entire life to something, you know? You fight for something and actually put the work in, and sacrifice time, like your parents told you to do in order to be ‘successful,’ just so when you finally reach a victory and it’s time to celebrate, some obstacle is there to pull you back down again. That’s life, I guess. I don’t want to bash anybody or be bitter or mean, I just want to be able to celebrate our victory. A lot of things change when one is granted success, random people pop up, and a lot of the adjustments are rough. My way of coping with them is through focusing on the things that I have accomplished and the things that are yet to come.”
Judge for yourself here.
