Watch Kanye West’s First Ever Appearance on Rap City

Extending our salute to Kanye West as his The College Dropout LP turned 10 years old earlier this week, we unearth a video in which West visits Big Tigger in the basement of BET‘s Rap City to promote the release of his debut album. Consciously spewing the same introspective insight since day one, Ye speaks on the reasoning behind the album’s name, calling a magazine to ask why his “Through The Wire” video didn’t make a top five list, people overlooking his rapping aspirations, and breaking through the barrier of Chicago’s gritty music scene. Lastly, West ends the show by gracing the black-lit booth with a customary freestyle.
