For BMW, “M” has always stood for one thing: performance. Every vehicle that adorns the iconic M badge has been engineered from the ground up with the sole intention of being the highest performing machine possible – and the new 2015 M6 Coupé is no exception. Sitting firmly atop the 6 series family, the M6 Coupé takes two-door touring to another dimension. With a direct-injected 4.4-liter V8 and a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers, the M6 outputs a massive 560hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, available down low from 1,500rpm all the way up to 5,750rpm. Power is sent straight to the rear wheels through BMW’s 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, or for the purists, a proper 6-speed manual. That kind of hardware enables the M6 Coupé to shoot from 0-60mph in an impressive 4.2 seconds. BMW further devotes itself to the Gods of performance by giving the M6 a carbon fiber roof that keeps the car’s center of gravity as low as possible, an Active M Differential for superior handling, and massive carbon ceramic brakes. Inside, drivers are faced with an M exclusive gauge cluster, along with an M specific HUD that provides real time data. With the M6 Coupé, BMW has thrown down the gauntlet, showing us what can be achieved in a two-door coupé when performance is the top priority. Keep your eyes peeled for the official unveiling at next month’s Detroit Auto Show.
