Many may not have realized or even pondered, but the American hippie generation of the late ‘60s and ‘70s laid a sturdy foundation to the counterculture that is today’s streetwear phenomenon. Hippies and their love for the arts, as well as a generally peaceful existence, was fueled by a fiery disdain for consumerism and conformity. Youth culture’s ability to unite and rebel continues to serve as an inspiration for emerging clothiers as well as pioneering brands. In paying homage to what some attribute as the birthplace of the hippie revolution, XLARGE and Vans come together to create a collection centered around San Francisco’s 1967 summer, or better known as the “Summer of Love.” The above teaser image and accompanying press release mentions the collection will feature a unique psychedelic pattern that combines a checkered design with tie dye colors as well as a remake of Vans’ ironic Authentic #44 model. Expected to release July 6 at select stockists, stayed tuned for further updates.
