The long-awaited follow up to Quasimoto‘s 2005 album The Further Adventures of Lord Quas has finally bestowed itself upon us. Yessir Whatever chronicles the diabolical adventures of Madlib‘s alter ego over the span of his entire existence. Madlib’s transformation into the helium-voiced heretic is one of the most innovative processes in recent music history. Dissatisfied with his “Barry White” baritone voice, the master sampler slowed down his beats to quarter speed, rapping his verses “like his lips were dragging through molasses.” He then speeds the records back up, creating a “trademark pitch, a couple of notes higher than Eminem, like he’s still giddy after huffing on a cocktail of helium and laughing gas” (Stonesthrow). Now that we’ve reminisced over Lord Quas’ conception, check out his latest offering. Stream Yessir Whatever over at Pitchfork, then hit us back with your thoughts.
