After much speculation, Canon has officially released its long-awaited mirorless compact today. The EOS M comes with an 18.1-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, DIGIC 5 imaging processor, and a 3-inch 1.04MP smudge-resistant touchscreen. It also uses the T4i’s improved hybrid AF system for speedier, sharper auto-focusing capability. Weighing a light 265g and measuring only 108.6 x 66.5 x 32.3 mm, this new release delivers DSLR potential to Canon’s regular market of point-and-shooters. It will launch in October 2012, alongside two EF-M lenses – a 18-55mm f3.5/5.6 IS STM zoom and a 22mm f/2.0 STM pancake. The black kit will cost $800 USD with the EF-M 22mm f/2.0 STM pancake lens while the zoom lens will be available separately at $300 USD. A white version will also be exclusively sold via Canon’s online store. Further information is available here.
