Designed by the researchers at Queen’s University’s Human Multimedia Lab, the “paperphone” and “snaplet” are two fully functional paper computing devices controlled by the bending of their screens. Featuring a 3.7-inch flexible electrophoretic display with 2-inch long bidirectional bend sensors, the “paperphone” is capable of use as a phone, music player, book reader and navigator. Its sister device, the “snaplet,” is worn on one’s wrist and can be transitioned from use as a thin-film, touch-screen computer to an actual phone by removing the wristband and bending the screen. The two devices will be presented soon at the annual CHI Conference in Vancouver, Canada.
