Last month, we unveiled a recent project involving WAD and Renault based on the new incoming roadster, the WIND. Continuing on with this initiative is a WAD team-up with fellow French label Marithé +François Girbaud to produce the “WEARACAR” cover to wrap up the Renault WIND. The result is a denim-inspired cover customized with Wattwash™, a revolutionary laser treatment. The cover once unraveled, reveals itself as a massive 20 m2 paddock jacket that follows every car curve accurately to the finest detail. Some specifics include 40 meters of 20 oz denim courtesy of ISKO, 60 meters of tartan, over 200 meters of ribbon and a total of 2 weeks worth of cutting and production. Look for the WEARACAR cover to be unveiled at Bread & Butter Berlin this week between July 7th and 9th.

Wad takes its Very Good Trip in Europe with the WIND, Renault’s very latest Roadster. With this is mind, the fashion and urban trends magazine has asked the Marithé + François Girbaud’s label to imagine a jeans accessory around this little speedy thing. A very inspired François Girbaud showed us once again how much he loves this material and created a denim cover which turns itself into a real « chilling area » as it reveals the car. Off with dicey collaborations between car makers and prêt-à-porter labels. Starting from the WEARABAG clothes concept, the label worked from a denim and nylon cover protecting the whole roadster (WEARACAR), customised with the Wattwash™ revolutionary laser treatment. In this way, it has been possible to reproduce the car curves on a Isko denim cloth down to the smallest detail. When you open it, this cover becomes a 20m2 paddock-jacket. A 5 cm wide and 7 metre long zip was specially designed for the occasion.

Creating this WEARACAR implied considerable scale:
40 metres of 20oz denim offered by manufacturer ISKO, 60 meters of tartan. More than 150 metres of 5 cm wide ribbons and 50 metres, 2 cm wide. Two weeks’ work for a pattern designer, a cutter and outfitters.

A gigantic exhibit proportionate to the Berlin Tempelhof airport where it will be exhibited during Berlin’s Bread & Butter from 7th to 9th of July 2010, before getting on its way again.

Note: You can admire this cover in the episodes of WAD’s Very Good Trip on the new web interface « MaisonClothes.com »

This is a relief for all vehicles which can now have their own Wattwash™ washed-out jeans if you please!!!!
