We’ve constantly been fiddling around with which day makes the most sense for our staff pick resulting in inconsistent choices within the last few weeks but I think we’ve finally settled on Sunday as it represents the true ending of the week relative to a Friday or a Monday. Our staff pick this week takes a new dimension as Charles and Luis feature their picks which include colette x Gap and a video spot on House of Cassette alongside other choices which include the Converse All Star Tassel Hi and Grotesk’s work for 5Boro.

Jason – Converse 100th Anniversary October Release

When we talk classic sneaker, nothing springs to mind faster then the Converse All Star. Let’s get real, the All Star has transcended so many different levels and demographics which comes naturally with having such a strong 100 year legacy. The Tassel Hi is my pick as they have included subtle touches to create a nice and simple design.

Charles – colette x Gap Paris x New York Tees

These few years, people have been talking about Gap as if there’s no way to revive the brand. But I feel like they definitely have the potential to make a huge comeback, especially through these strong collaborations with “cooler” brands and stores. What draws me in about this collection is the concept of collaborating from Paris to New York, rather than the graphics themselves. By having one artist initiate the design and the other finishing it, they might have to break out of their own styles, which could lead to very interesting results. Let’s hope we’ll see the rise of Gap again…

Luis – Cut & Show – House of Casette Video

I can always appreciate a brand with a commitment to detail within the gear they produce. That denim looks mighty nice, especially the way that it’s being crafted with the old school machine and stitching technique. Being able to work alongside a cut and sew clothing label myself, you definitely get that mentality instilled in whatever you do after you leave the office, so I can relate to what Peter Lee is trying to get across. On a side note, people will always be arrogant, while some fail and some succeed, it’s always a reminder to keep your head on straight, cause no one likes an asshole.

Eugene – Grotesk for 5Boro Collection

It only took a quick explanation for Grotesk to convince me how he had turned such a simple concept as gate malfunction advertisement stickers into such a great and regionally relevant concept to fellow New Yorkers. The sheer simplicity combined with 5Boro as a local skate institution ties everything in nicely as a final design.
