In the frigid Great North of Canada where the winter temperatures routinely dip well below the freezing point, the 15 Below Project along with the help of a cast of celebrities are hoping to make a change this winter. With approximately 300,000 homeless people living on the streets of Canada, 15 Below Project hopes to tackle it by handing out 3,000 “15 Below” Jackets. The specially designed jackets by Canadian designer Lida Baday were conceived with a few necessities in mind including being waterproof, windproof and breathable which led to the use of Aquamax material as the base of the jacket. However to combat the frigid cold, Lida created a series of pockets within the jacket to allow for the use of readily available and easy to find insulation, newspaper (similar to Final Home’s jackets). A number of jackets have made their way to eBay, each signed by some notable Canadian personalities such as The Trailer Parkboys, Rush, Kids in the Hall and Nelly Furtado as well as more international personalities such as Robert Plant, R.E.M., Kid Rock, Yo-Yo Ma and Jon Steward and the Daily Show.
