Mr. Saturday Dives Deeper Into Sartorial Codes for SS25
Celebrating London’s Billy’s and Blitz nightclubs.
Over the past few years, Joey Gollish’s label Mr. Saturday has been testing the waters – playing with a range of styles and design inspirations. For example, Fall/Winter 2022 fused retro-futuristic and Americana styles, Fall/Winter 2023 offered up a taste of daring street with its Parisian nightlife and Spring/Summer 2024 nodded to Louis XIV. But even across the varied influence and explorative styles, there has been a bubbling exploration for tailored styles. So with the brand’s new Spring/Summer 2025 collection, which recently made its debut during Paris Fashion Week, Mr. Saturday is diving deeper into sartorial codes.
To orient the new collection, Gollish looked to the influence of London’s Billy’s and Blitz nightclubs – maintaining the brand’s energized personality. But this time around, the channeling of said energy takes a streamlined approach as the varied lines and cuts of sartorial codes lead the way.
Inside the wardrobe, tailoring does not just belong to suits. It extends its reach to matching asymmetrically-cut garments, pinstripe button-downs with contrasting collars, straight-leg shorts and more. But where the self-expressive and New Romantics movement inspiration from Billy and Blitz comes into play is tailoring fused graphic designs and the collection’s overall playful, yet direct design attitude. The collection also retains Mr. Saturday’s street-savvy edge which sees highlights like floor-hugging wide-leg pants and cropped jacket with exaggerated shoulders.
“The club kids, as they were called, shaped modern club culture in the UK and the world. Billy’s and Blitz were the birthplaces of the New Romantics, a movement characterized by its flamboyant fashion, eclectic music, and a fearless approach to identity and style,” said Gollish. “I aimed to capture the essence of that era while reinterpreting it for the modern world. If there was only one thing I could have people take away from this collection it would be: Go out this Saturday night, put on something that tells people who you are and what you believe in, and talk to people; it’s more important than you think.”
