Artist Yayoi Kusama’s trademark use of polka dots can be seen applied to this recent multi-brand project between XLarge, X-girl and Porter. Interestingly enough, much of Kusama’s inspirations and polka dot designs are derived from a series of hallucinations she experienced as a child which was spawned by physical abuse from her mother. This messenger bag is now available at calif.
The Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama was born on March 29, 1929. “Her work shows some attributes of feminism, minimalism, surrealism, Art Brut, pop art, and abstract expressionism, and is infused with autobiographical, psychological, and sexual content.” (Wikipedia) To commemorate the documentary film “≒ Yayoi Kusama: I love”, XLarge and X-girl has collaborated with Porter to create a set of Yayoi Kusama bags. There are two styles available, a messenger bag for the guys and a tote bag for the girls. These bags will be released on March 8th.
