2017 has been a momentous year for Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director, who has seen the Italian powerhouse of fashion flourish under his idiosyncratic guidance. Michele’s appointment in 2015 came as somewhat of a surprise and translated into instantaneous success — the house reported a first quarter revenue increase of 51% this March. Highlights of Michele’s year include the Le Marché des Merveilles watch collection, the MR PORTER capsule, the Angelica Hicks T-shirt collaboration, the vintage-inspired sweatbands and the Dapper Dan collaboration. That’s not to mention the acclaimed seasonal collections released throughout the calendar year. The fact that topping Lyst’s Year in Fashion Report seemed more of a formality than an achievement underlines what a stellar year Alessandro Michele and Gucci have seen.
