Tatsuhiko “Ryu” Akashi is the CEO and founder of MEDICOM TOY -- a brand known for its art-toy figurines and super-popular line of BE@RBRICKs. The simple bear figure has won over the world with its countless reiterations, as the company regularly collaborates with brands and people from all industries. However, MEDICOM TOY is not only known for its BE@RBRICKs, as it was also behind the likes of the UNDERCOVER Gilapple, KAWS’s BFF figure and even apparel. This year, a year after celebrating its 20th anniversary, Ryu and his brand presented collaborations with everyone from Basquiat’s estate to the Star Wars franchise and the NBA. Maybe best of all, MEDICOM TOY unveiled its latest joint effort with Nike: a redesign of 2005’s black denim Dunk SB, set to release this holiday season.
