Proving just how far he’s come since leaving his role of creative director at Balenciaga last year, the past 12 months have seen Alexander Wang take the reins as CEO and chairman of his own label, drop a jewelry line, and become the first designer to curate playlists for Apple Music. On the fashion front, Wang teased his subversive 2016 spring/summer collection under the handle @wangsquad that included portraits of a series of muses and big-hitting names including Travis Scott. September’s fashion shows were equally blockbuster thanks to a collection that channeled the early days of hip-hop and with New York shows attended by Nicki Minaj, Tyga, and DeJ Loaf and featuring performances from Travis Scott and Desiigner. This year also saw Wang join adidas‘s growing crop of designer collaborators – also including Stella McCartney, Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto and Kanye West – for a capsule collection that dropped in September.
