Saint Laurent Reissues Charlotte Perriand Furniture for Salone del Mobile

Saint Laurent is reissuing exclusive furniture designs by Charlotte Perriand during the Salone del Mobile in Milan next month.
Titled Saint Laurent — Charlotte Perrian, the exhibition will house four of the late French architect and designer’s pieces dating from 1943 to 1967. Selected by Saint Laurent’s creative director, Anthony Vaccarello, each piece will be reproduced on a made-to-order basis.
Among the featured designs, Perriand’s Rio de Janeiro bookcase, designed for her second husband, Jacques Martin, in 1962, has only been exhibited three times in the last 25 years. The Indochina guest armchair (1943), meanwhile, was meticulously recreated by Saint Laurent from an illustration, as the original was lost.
Elsewhere, the Mille-feuilles table, designed in 1963, originally existed as a “reduced-scale model” as its composition, which included 10 layers of two different kinds of wood, was too difficult to manufacture. Rounding out the exhibition is a sofa that Perriand made for the Japanse ambassador’s Paris home in 1967.

“The partnership between Saint Laurent and Charlotte Perriand is the latest example of the house’s ongoing commitment to heritage, aimed to bring important artifacts of design culture — previously hidden in inaccessible collections — to a wider audience,” the brand told WWD.
“It also honors Yves Saint Laurent’s admiration for Perriand’s work, whose pure modernity echoed his own creations. He collected her designs throughout his life, while Pierre Bergé supported important global retrospectives of her work.”
Saint Laurent’s reissued Charlotte Periand collaboration will be on view at the Padiglione Visconti in Milan from April 8 to 13. Take a look at the designs in the gallery above.
