LEGO Partners With McLaren to Create 830-Piece Senna GTR Model
Recreating the original down to its moving pistons and opening dihedral doors.
McLaren and LEGO have continued their collaborative relationship, this time focusing on the Senna GTR track car. The LEGO version of the car consists of 830 pieces and features recreations of various details from the supercar including nods to its engine and doors.
The V8 engine features in replica form with moving pistons, while the LEGO model also celebrates the car’s aerodynamic curves, opening dihedral doors and one-of-a-kind blue livery. Overall, the model measures 12 inches and its 830 pieces are suitable for those ages 10 and above.
Speaking about the collaboration, McLaren Automotive design director Robert Melville explained how the model “is packed full of incredible details from the rear spoiler to the moving pistons in the V8 engine to the dihedral doors” while LEGO Technic senior designer Uwe Wabra described it as “an incredibly interesting challenge. This track car is not like any road car I’ve worked on before. It’s got some unique details, like its silhouettes and the awesome rear spoiler, which differentiates the building experience from others. Just like the incredible engineers at McLaren do when designing their supercars, we really pushed things to the max so the resulting model perfectly honors the art form that is the McLaren Senna GTR.”
The special-edition model will be available from the LEGO web store from January 1, 2021, priced at $49.99 USD.
