ASICS Boldly Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the GEL-LYTE™ III Sneaker With High-Vis Colorways
Three updated takes on the classic silhouette usher the sneaker into a new era.
Presented by ASICS

Designer Shigeyuki Mitsui is considered a pioneer of the now ubiquitous sport-meets-style sneaker, and there is perhaps no better emblem of this than the GEL-LYTE™ III model from ASICS. Created in 1990 by Mitsui, his goal was to provide fans with a shoe that married performance and fashion. 30 years later and the design still holds. To mark the occasion of its anniversary, ASICS has released three new color-blocked iterations of the GEL-LYTE™ III shoe, each of which distinctly embodies the bold spirit the sneaker was built on.

Paying homage to its influence over the last three decades, the first colorway reimagines colorblocking seen on the GEL-LYTE™ III design from 2009 through 2011. “Techno Cyan” appears on the shoe’s signature split tongue as well as on synthetic suede overlays, the heel stabilizer and outsole. The bright teal hue meshes with a white upper, black laces and overlays and hits of two purple shades for a 90s-inspired aesthetic with a modern twist.

The same teal color is used on another, slightly subtler iteration, that harkens back to a 2009 style. It’s complemented by more neutral tones, including grey, black and white. Like the other GEL-LYTE™ III releases, it retains the design and technical details that have made the sneaker so beloved, including the split tongue, reflective heel panel and GEL™ technology.

Rounding out the throwback appeal of the latest GEL-LYTE™ III sneakers is a multi-color option that grabs attention with its collage of teal, light blue, grey and two shades of pink. Serving as an exclamation point on the bold assortment of new offerings, this version sees its leather and synthetic suede overlays utilize the colorblocking from an unreleased 2007 “252” in collaboration with David Z.

The new GEL-LYTE™ III sneakers are available for $110 USD at ASICS’ website.
