'Fortnite' Latest Event Reveals an All-New "Tidal Wave" Storm
“The Device” event had more than 2.3 million viewers on Twitch.
Epic Games’ Fortnite title has just completed its latest event, surrounding around a mysterious “Device” plot, and the details around its meaning and actions has now been revealed.
As gamer DrLupo has revealed during his livestream of the event which took place not long ago, the Fortnite battle royale map went through a drastic “change” event that showed The Agency — found at the center of the map — initiate some sort of device that triggered a cataclysmic reaction, exploding the complex and revealing an enormous tower of pulsating energy. The players who were live during the event saw themselves experience gravity shifts and abnormal movement patterns, before space-time warps started occurring. As such, the guests were teleported to an office of some sort — in first-person perspective for the first time in Fortnite — with dialogue in the background vaguely explaining the causes and effects of “The Device.”
As the gamers teleported back and forth in confusion, many finally saw the aftermath of the device’s explosion: the engulfing storm, which has become Fortnite‘s signature perimeter, had been replaced with a gigantic circular tidal wave. DrLupo and the others in the server experimented with the incoming flood and noticed damage was being taken off once swimming inside, which revealed its take as the new “storm.” Some within the livestream even drew potential parallels to the mythic goldfish rarely found in the game as well as the game’s fishing mechanic.
Fortnite‘s delayed “The Device” event saw more than two million viewers on Twitch and more than six million on Youtube, yet concluded shortly with little to no concrete answers as to how this modifies the game. Fans will need to find out exactly on Wednesday, June 17 when the next season begins.
