Saba Releases Instrumental EP, 'SpareChange!'
The talented Chicago rapper steps away from the mic to sit down behind the boards.
Saba has already proven himself to be one of Chicago’s most talented up-and-coming rappers. Now, he’s showing us his beat-crafting prowess. The Windy City lyricist takes up the role of producer for his new project, an etirely instrumental effort dubbed SpareChange! SpareChange! delivers eight new tracks from Saba, each a product of Saba’s behind-the-boards experimentation. Saba tells FADER that he intends for this project to come across as more than just vocal-less versions of his own songs, explaining that he wanted the music on SpareChange! to function as standalone productions. ”There is still a lot to learn and a lot more sounds to expand on, but I’m pretty happy with the way the project turned out. I hope people enjoy something a little different from me,” he says in a statement to FADER. Those looking for a little vocal aid on the project won’t be disappointed though; Boyang Matsopola of The O’My’s comes onboard for “Noname Gypsy Type Beat.” You can give Saba’s new instrumental offering a listen above.
