Fledging online magazine h(y)r collective has recently launched their 2nd issue. Joining their Canadian brethren INQMND in the flash magazine ranks, the magazine is another testament to the growing Canadian scene brought on by large involvement by a wealth of talented and created individuals from both a retail and design perspective. Issue 2 features a journey through San Francisco which includes interesting interviews with Benny Gold regarding his rise to prominence as a designer and the low down on denim with Selfedge’s Kiya Babzani. In a special pair of adidas Superstar 80s, Neighborhood’s Shinsuke Takizawa face can be seen replacing the usual tongue logo. The two parties are no strangers to each other with previous projects including the hyped up release of a NBHD x Gazelle Superstar. These will remain strictly a special 1 of 1 pair of Superstars.
NVSBL Tailors was originally highlighted back in March as a brand that represented the spreading of the seed on United Front founder Matt George’s account. The Canadian entrepreneur continues to diversify his portfolio on a higher level with many projects successfully covering many levels and offering a clear and concise choice for consumers of different likes and tastes. The Nike Air Structure Triax has been one of Nike’s greatest performers in recent memory. Although many perhaps weren’t down with its original inception, the Triax still remains relevant almost 20 years later. Aside from the use of suede and leather, the toebox among other areas seem to feature ripstop nylon. No word yet on a release date except for the Holiday season, however other reports are saying this might be a Euro exclusive.

On the heels of their collaboration with In4mation and Jim Philips, up and coming Japanese brand Magic Number has shown remarkable refinement for a brand with such a short history. The collection seen here includes crop denim, button-up shirts that include works with Hurley and t-shirts. Available now at STLESS.
To coincide with the release of the St. Pauli x Nike Dunk High, sneaker store Purchaze has initiated a contest with entry available through any sneaker purchase. The winner will receive a St. Pauli x Nike accessories pack including a St. Pauli scarf, metallic white St. Pauli logo shoe stand, black stencil and pendant. The contest runs from May 28th to June 5th at Purchaze with a release date for the St. Pauli Dunk Highs set for May 30th.

Converse has released a new collection of Chuck Taylor All-Stars as part of their 100th anniversary re-visitation of some of the brands most prolific models of the past. Some of the models are not exact representations but rather homages to their earlier predecessors. The models include the Gachapin (1989 Conasaur Collection), Glam (1984 Fashion All Stars), Zebra In Dark (1987 Glow in the Dark) and the All Star SB (1991 Canvas All Star Specialty Collection). All the All Stars seen here will release in July.

Rumors of a Jordan Brand skate shoe have come to fruition in the form of the upcoming Flipsyde. The creation of an official skate model marks an ironic return for the Jordan legacy as the same sneakers worn by his Airness would often make their way onto the feet of skaters in the 80s. For Raf Simons, their latest 2008 spring/summer release in the Show Boats is arguably some next next NEXT level stuff in a design that resides very much in the avant garde realm of footwear design. The white patent leather boot includes multi colored straps, with cork heel counter and suede lining. Available now at oki-ni.
Continuing with their various collaborations, Wacko Maria teamed up with Porter to come up with some bags including a messenger bag, a tote bag, and a limited edition zip wallet. The messenger and tote bags come in similar style prints that have a very strong Jamaican flavor with palm trees, ocean, guitar, and different flowers. The zip wallet comes in two styles, one with cow print and the other with leopard print. Available now at Beams.
Famed tattoo artist, Jun Matsui, collaborated with Nike on the Dunk Electric. This model, honoring the centennial of Japanese immigration to Brazil, is designed with both cultures in mind and the two strongest influences in Jun’s life, the cangaco and the samurai. The shoe comes in brown leather with gold accents and shoelaces. A mouse, controversial animal in Brazil while popularly adored in Japan, is embroidered in gold on the tongue. There will only be 400 pairs of these Dunk Electrics made, 300 for the Brazilian market and 100 for the Japanese market. Each pair will come with an illustration signed by Jun Matsui.

Adidas has just released a new ZX800, named “Flavor of the World.” This pair of shoes is very unique in that the right shoe has a red color scheme and left shoe a blue scheme. Not only that, the design is based on a very interesting story about the beginnings of the Festival of Folclorico de Parintins, a popular annual celebration held in the Brazilian city of Parintins.
According to legend, a pregnant slave named Mae Catarina had a sudden craving to eat a bull’s tongue. In order to satisfy her, her husband killed the best bull, but was consequently sentenced to death by the master. However, Catarina was able to find a priest who resurrected the bull, thus saving her husband. This story stays alive through the efforts of two wealthy, feuding families: the Cids and the Monteverdes. The Cids and Monteverdes both built models of bulls, one named Caprichoso and the other, Garantido. Both families paraded the bull models on the streets and fought with each other if they crossed paths. And the Festival of Folclorico de Parintins is a re-enactment of the fights between the two bulls in the streets.
The shoe comes in a special box that has separate compartments for the left and right shoe. The shoes definitely have design references to the story including the red and the blue, representing the two feuding families, with Garantido labeled on the tongue of the red shoe, and Caprichoso labeled on the blue. This is definitely a very special pair of shoes, so get it while you can at Overkill.
