adidas Originals takes an innovative approach to the animal patterns popping up more and more this season with the release of the Water Color Animal Print Pack for its 2013 spring/summer adidas Consortium collection. Consisting of the Matchplay, Tech Super and Strider models, the three styles are based on a classic adidas silhouette, a runner, and a basketball shoe, respectively.
First up is the Matchplay. The silhouette is classic with the hand-painted pattern taking up most of the real estate of the shoe, but underlined by a thick white outsole and tied together with unintrusive black laces, the style is simple and cohesive. In addition to the highly visible shots of red on the heel and tongue, the shoe is finished off with subtle black embroidered dots.
Next up is the Tech Super. Straight out of the ’90s, it maintains its running heritage despite being updated with premium materials including high-quality leather, nappy suede and stretch mesh. Lined with soft leather, the shoe gives off a sleek but muted appearance thanks to its heavy use of black, but it does receive some appropriate amount of contrast from the yellow laces, tongue tab and trim along the heel.
Last but not least is the ’80s-inspired Strider with a white high-quality leather and nubuck upper with a perforated toe box and matching laces. Easily the most retro-looking, it gets a colorful contrast as well thanks to the sky blue trim and tongue tab.
Those looking to snag any one pair from the collection can look forward to seeing it in select stockists this March including XLarge.
