Earlier tonight history was made as the first-ever YouTube Music Awards went down at New York City’s Pier 36. Hosted by actor Jason Schwartzman and musician Reggie Watts, the Spike Jonze-directed webcast production offered performances from Lady Gaga, Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, M.I.A., Arcade Fire, and more. The show also featured live music videos. While some performances have not emerged online yet you can watch some live impressions from M.I.A., Arcade Fire and Eminem for now while also having a look at the winners of the big night below. In the name of viewer engagement, the awards were voted on entirely by the public, which led to somewhat unexpected results such as K-pop group Girls’ Generation’s win for Video of the Year for “I Got A Boy.”
Breakthrough Artist of the Year: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Response of the Year: Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix “Radioactive”
Innovation of the Year: Destorm “Feels Like Standing”
YouTube Phenomenon: Taylor Swift “I Feel Like Trouble”
Video of the Year: Girls Generation “I Got a Boy”
