Welcome to the seventh edition of Hypetrak’s Weekly Set-series. Distant Relatives Nas and Damien “Jr. Gong” Marley continue their musical fight for more awareness on social injustice in the Third World. “The Land Of Promise”, the latest track off their highly anticipated collaborative project, marked the duo’s first foray into Reggae as they attached vocals by the late legend Dennis Brown. Whoever would have thought that Nas’ introspective lyrics would sound this good over a bass heavy Jamaica-influenced riddim? It sure is appreciated. Always one to draw attention Young Money’s Golden Child Drake made you press the play button with the Boi-1nda-laced track “Miss Me”. Again the Toronto-native showcases his equally amped up skills on rapping and singing. Unfortunately we only heard the tagged version so far, but expect a tag-less version to this song to appear any day. Pharrell Williams’ contribution to Game’s upcoming R.E.D. Album has surprised many. With “It Must Be Heard” we received a first taste of what this album will sound like. Even if the reactions were mixed it still made you listen. ATLien B.o.B. keeps the world in heavy anticipation as he released the Paramore’s Hayley Williams-assisted tune entitled “Airplanes”. With the news that there will be a second part of this arleady excellent track that features Eminem himself the hype surround the song and the up and coming artist could not get any bigger. G.O.O.D Music-representative Big Sean unleashed the first single “Bullshittin’” off his debut offering Finally Famous. Filled with clever wordplay and a nice flow the song proves that this young rhymesayer is a worthy addition to Kanye’s always impeccable artist-roster.
Other audible treats that got your attention were provided by DJ/Production duo Crookers with a somewhat unorthodox edit of KiD CuDi’s already classic “Day N’Nite” and Crystal Castles that presented the single “Doe Deer” off their much awaited self-titled debut LP. Last week’s biggest mystery dealt with DJ Khaled dismissing J.Cole’s banging record “We On” from his Victory-album. Former Bad Boy now Def Jam-signee Shyne faced plenty of harsh criticism with his latest songs but could convince folks with his assistance on the remix for Alicia Keys’ “Unthinkable”. B.o.B. proves himself as a resident of our Weekly Set-series as he rounds up this week with another powerful track featuring Lupe Fiasco of his debut offering The Adventures Of Bobby Ray. Check out the audio summary below and enjoy.
